Edited by: Elsebeth Rhiannon on 28/08/2006 15:41:24 The top 10 reasons for why EVE is superior (to any MMOG) (aka why did I just get called an living EVE Online advertisement by my so-called friends)
  1. The exp system. No grinding for character development.
  2. The teamwork. As a consequence of point number 1, there is no level system that artificially prevents new players from co-operating with old ones.
  3. Players can actually effect the game world, conquer areas and defend them. As a consequence, player alliance politics actually matter.
  4. No grind. 4.a) You have the choice of not grinding at all. 4.b) Even if you decide to grind for isk, you have several choices for how to do it. 4.c) Some of those choices are actually so fun you can fool yourself into believing it is not a grind.
  5. Implicit RP support. The game world is such that any sensible way of talking about in-game equipment, policies, organizations etc is automatically in character, and thus compatible with roleplaying. This way, people who RP and those who do not can, if they want to, fight wars, conduct negotiations, and chat about gear, without either getting on the other's nerves overly too much.
  6. The variability of available options in equipment and tactics. 6.a) The game mechanics are such that there rarely is one piece of uber gear everyone of a said profession/race has to have to be anything. If some such is accidentally introduced, it gets nerfed. CCP cares for game balance and works for it long-term, without listening too much to whiners. 6.b) In PvP, while there are bad setups and almost-uber setups, there are many good enough setups and teamwork tactics and such you can use to counter a superior (in gear) enemy; the game is varied and endlessly interesting that way. 6.c) Player skill matters in fights as much or more than equipment.
  7. There is no "end game".
  8. Death actually hurts you some, which makes people care of what they do.
  9. Player driven economics, which makes other career choices than mission runner or combat actually viable as your main profession, instead of just something you do on the side of "quests".
  10. Space ships are cooler than night elves.
